Chapter Nineteen

Krissy

“Finally! I’m going crazy here!” I said as soon as Erin picked up.

It was early in the afternoon, and I had been waiting all morning for the chance to get to FaceTime her. I wanted to talk to her about what happened, but I wanted to see Connor, too. And Libby, though I wasn’t sure if she was going to be around. Being the teen she was, she had more going on in her life than before, and it wasn’t always a guarantee that I would get to see her when I got the chance to video chat with my best friend.

We were going to have a cup of coffee with each other that morning over the chat, but it didn’t work out on Erin’s end. She promised she would make time to talk to me, but it seemed like it took forever before she had the chance to really make it happen.

Of course, I would never guilt her for that, but I had to admit, I was more than a little frustrated with how long it took before we were able to talk. Then again, I didn’t have any kids, so I didn’t know what it took to get a baby ready for the day.

“Sorry!” she said. “Connor decided he wanted to wear more of his lunch than he ate, so I had to give him a bath before we could get on. But here we are!”

“There he is!” I cooed. “Oh, my gosh, I miss you! I’m going to come down and see you soon, okay?”

“Where are you?” Erin asked. “I don’t recognize the background from when I was there the other day.”

“I’m sitting in the courtyard. Remember when I showed you the little side yards we have next to our houses? I’m out there,” I explained. “It’s so nice I wanted to be outside, but it’s too sunny around the back of the house for you to be able to see me.”

“Makes sense,” Erin said.

“Where’s Libby?”

“She’s out with her dad doing some errands. If I knew you were going to be free to call today, I would have told her so she could say hi,” Erin told me. “But I’ll make sure she’s around to talk next time.”

“You better. She’s going to think I forgot all about her with how long it’s been since we last talked,” I said.

“I know, and she’s not happy about it. Believe me. She’s asking when she’s going to be allowed to give out her phone number to people. Right now, she just has our numbers so we can talk to her if we need to when she’s at school, but we’re not going to let her give her number out until she’s older,” Erin said. “I think it’s weird how you never really think of those things until you have a kid. Then all of a sudden you start to wonder what is age appropriate and all that stuff.”

“I still think it’s crazy that you have kids,” I laughed. “What a difference a couple of years make!”

“What a difference a day makes,” she said with a wink.
